holy mischief
This course explores the historical and heretical Jesus—the Jesus who threatened the hierarchical logics, imperial systems, and power structures of his day.
Not the sanitized figure of domination theology, but the radical teacher, healer, mystic, and social disruptor whose life challenged every empire-built assumption about power, purity, and belonging.
We reclaim and recover the stories that were meant to free us, and we discard the toxic, colonial thinking that distorted them.
Through a historically grounded and spiritually honest study, we will:
examine the four canonical Gospels in their political and cultural context,
explore the suppressed and silenced texts—the gospels we were not allowed to see,
uncover the liberation movements, community practices, and resistance strategies embedded in the earliest Jesus traditions,
and learn to discern what is treasure and what is trash in our inherited theologies.
This course is an invitation to meet Jesus as a threat to empire, a healer of social wounds, a practitioner of non-compliance, and a guide into a spirituality rooted in justice, truth, and radical love.
