“YOU GET TO KEEP JESUS” EDITION

Register

The Holy Mischief Laboratory is a communal experience of reflection, dialogue, and embodied learning that intentionally creates room for people to listen to and trust their intuition on matters pertaining to faith and spirituality.

This edition is an invitation to explore Jesus for yourself through new lenses and diverse interpretations with the hope that something in Jesus’s life and personhood will will add value to your spiritual practice.

Who We Are

Two friends with different interpretations of Jesus but with a shared hope that people could learn to trust and listen to their own intuition as the foundation of spiritual practice. We share the conviction that it’s possible to rebuild a spirituality that works, keeping everything and anything that still feels aligned and letting go of whatever doesn’t.

  • Hi! I’m Alison! I’m a trauma-informed spiritual director and community facilitator with 15 years of ministry experience. I created Grey Space in 2019 and have specialized in spiritual care for people with church hurt or who are deconstructing. I met Tamice in Lake Tahoe and was immediately taken in by their vitality, open-hearted warmth, thoughtful introspection, and fierce conviction that diseased imaginations could be healed and God could be good. I told Tamice that anything they want to do in the world, I wanted to be a part of it. Thankfully for me, they felt similarly and we’ve gotten to dream up something as beautiful and compelling as Holy Mischief!

I still consider Jesus God and love this vision of a God that so desperately wants connection that they would do anything to make themselves known and accessible to people, like becoming human. Jesus has been an incredible source of compassion and tenderness in my inner life and being in his presence has shaped me into a more compassionate and loving person.

  • Hi! I’m Tamice! I’m the creative director of Black Modern Mystic and have 23 years of ministry experience. I have a Doctorate in Social Transformation, a Masters in Theology, and a Masters in Leadership. I have one spouse named Ellison, and two kids, one of whom met Alison while still in my spouse’s belly. When I first met Alison, we had deep and riveting conversations that included different interpretations of Jesus, yet similar hopes about what the world could be. We developed a very deep friendship very quickly because Alison reminds me of one of my favorite people - Jesus. I’m deeply inspired by her work in the world and the ways that she can hold space for people’s fears and failures and dreams.

Jesus has not lost importance in my own life but the positionally has changed. Jesus as god used to mean an imperial savior and lord but for me now it means a rugged ancestral guide with whom I am one. Jesus is part of my great and growing cloud of witnesses and a very good friend.

What to Expect

Our learning journey will begin by exploring the interpretations of Jesus we’ve received and what is known of the historical Jesus. From there, we will move in three session increments alternating between:

Activating our imagination as a portal to encounter Jesus through Scripture

Discovering who Jesus becomes when we use the lens of our own life and reality as the interpretive guide for Scripture

Exploring diverse theological perspectives and interpretations of Jesus.

This will be a highly invitational, exploratory cohort with no doctrinal expectations. Each session will offer fodder for discussion and discovery as you pay attention to your own body, intuition, and mind.
